Description black leather military cap or hat; stovepipe shape; no bill but front has raised section approx 6.5 cm higher than covered top, and is slightly curved to conform to shape of hat; sticker tag on front of this raised sections reads "3. Hessian cap worn by a Hessian soldier who as captured at the Battle of Trenton, 26th December, 1776."; tag on inside of hat reads "R 147";

Provenance According to the old records (and old label on cap) this was worn by a Hessian soldier captured at the Battle of Trenton, New Jersey. This provenance is questionable. Curators from the Ohio Historical Society, Columbus, OH believe this to be an 1813 U. S. Infantry cap.
