Description gingal gun; dark brown wood; matchlock firing mechanism; adjustable rear sight, beaded front sight; metal buttplate; heavy; stock almost entire length of gun; ramrod below barrel fits into woodend stock, has flared end; three large brass barrel clasps, one large brass barrel cap at muzzle end; tag on butt stock reads:

"Chinese Gingal nine feet long, operated by// three Chinese soldiers, with Chinese sword// and Leather scabbard, captured by the Russ-// ians in the Imperial Summer Palace near// Peking, and presented to Lieut. Colonel Webb// Hayes of Major General Chaffee's Staff."
