Description thin gold invitation; two seals, one in each upper corner; seal on right depicts a rising sun over a body a water, hills on either side of the water, and four sailing vessels; seal on left depicts a Viking woman sitting with a spear and a shield, "Eureka" printed on shield and a dog laying next to shield; one of these seals is the state seal of California; between the seals: "To His Excellency R. B. Hayes President of the United States. We respectfully tender a cordial invitation to yourself and suite to attend the Grand Carnival Bal-Masque at Mechanics Pavillion on Friday Evening, October 8th, 1880. Very Respectfully yours, Geo.
