Provenance 1 of 3 Japanese display cases from the Philadelphia Centennial International Exhibition of 1876, purchased by President Hayes through Thomas Donaldson for $74.50 each at the end of the Centennial Exposition. The cases were used by the Japanese for display purposes at the Exposition. Originally 1 was shipped to the White House and 2 cases sent to A. H. Miller in Fremont, Ohio.
