Description |
Dark Brown (?) leather holster for guns; used on a saddle; two holsters attached with a leather strap; bottom of each holster has a brass casing; each holster also has a brass knob to secure 1934.684.1B; hole just above each holster for a strap to attach; on the strap are four holes, two of which have a leather thong running through it; on the underside of the strap is a second strap which has a belt (loop section) running from it as well as a hole, probably for the buckle section. |

Part of the saddle and equipment which belonged to Major Webb C. Hayes, 1st Ohio Cavalry. He was in this saddle when his horse "Chickamauga" was killed and Webb was wounded in the assault on San Juan Hill, July 1, 1898. The saddle was recovered one week later from the dead horse. |
